Thanks to the dedication and vision of the Oregon Medical Association Alliance, the Oregon Medical Association, and the Portland Candlelighters, Portland’s first Ronald McDonald House® opened its doors to families in 1984 near Doernbecher Children’s Hospital at OHSU. Today, Portland’s two Ronald McDonald Houses provide a “home away from home” to families and their seriously ill or injured children who travel far to receive medical treatment. The houses provide a setting in which families connect with other families, and children can meet other children going through a similar experience. During their visit, guests stay in comfortable and lovingly decorated private rooms where they can get a peaceful night’s rest, knowing their child is close by.
Ronald McDonald House Charities relies on generous donors and volunteers to help support the operations of our Houses. Families are asked pay $20 per day. However, the actual cost to operate the Houses is about $107 per room. Because having a child in the hospital can put even financially stable families in crisis, families unable to pay are never turned away. Your gift ensures that these families will continue to be able to stay close to their children.
