OMA House of Delegates Adopts Insurer Code of Conduct
Reflecting the urgency of the need for physician leadership in the ongoing reform activities at the state and national levels, OMA physicians took up several reform-related resolutions and recommendations at the OMA’s 137th House of Delegates meeting in 2011. Actions taken include formally adopting the AMA’s Health Insurer Code of Conduct, which tags health insurers with guidelines for specific practices, including cancellation and rescission; medical loss ratios; respectful relations with patients and physicians; and honoring physician discretion and professional judgment in ordering treatment, among several others.
