The Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion award honors a clinician who has contributed outstanding accomplishments in advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity in the healthcare workforce, or improving health equity for people in historically marginalized groups.

Ambar Faridi, MD |Portland VA and Casey Eye Institute

Ambar Faridi grew up in Karachi, Pakistan and Las Vegas but has called Portland home since 2005. She attended the OHSU School of Medicine and completed ophthalmology residency there as well. For the last ten years and counting, she has had the honor of taking care of veterans and teaching ophthalmology residents at the Portland VA Eye Clinic. At the Casey Eye Institute, she serves as Director for DEI and Associate Residency Program Director of the ophthalmology residency. As Chair of the Eye Institute’s DEI committee, she and her fellow committee members carry out DEI initiatives within the ophthalmology department, across the university, and nationally. She is passionate about resident and medical student education, serving as director of several resident didactic series and participating in the MD Curriculum and admissions process at OHSU.
